why dos it say scanner is busy

Hi @joyce86,

 

Welcome to the HP Support Community

 

I'd like to help!

 

I understand you are receiving a scanner busy messages.

 

When the scanner is performing other tasks and a scan/copy is initiated you will receive the message.

 

To assist better -

  1. Do you receive a when performing both scan and copy?
  2. Are you able to print documents from a computer/phone?
  3. What device are you using the printer with, a Windows computer, Mac, Android or an iPhone? 
  4. How is the printer connected to the device USB or wireless?

Meanwhile, try the below suggestions -

 

Reset the product

 

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

 Also, try updating the printer's firmware -HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
