Hi @JamesSoft,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your HP DeskJet F4580 scanner. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.

  • Check Connection: Ensure that the scanner is properly connected to your computer or device. Sometimes loose connections can cause interruptions in scanning.
  • Software Updates: Make sure that your printer/scanner drivers and software are up to date. Visit the HP website to download the latest drivers and software for your device.
  • Scanning Resolution: Lower the scanning resolution. Higher resolutions require more processing power and memory, which might be causing the scanner to stop mid-way. Try reducing the resolution and see if the issue persists.
  • Clear Scanner Bed: Ensure that the scanner bed is clean and free of any obstructions. Even small particles or smudges can interfere with the scanning process.
  • Memory and Processing: If your computer is low on memory or processing power, it may struggle to handle high-resolution scans. Close any unnecessary programs and try scanning again.
  • Scan in Batches: Instead of scanning multiple pages in one go, try scanning them in smaller batches. This might help prevent the scanner from stopping mid-way.
  • Firmware Update: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer/scanner. Firmware updates can sometimes fix bugs and improve performance.
  • Reset Scanner: Try resetting the scanner to its factory settings. Refer to the user manual or the HP website for instructions on how to do this.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and hopefully resolve the issue with your HP DeskJet F4580 scanner.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden4,

I tried the above but none seems to work. With lower resolution it stops every third scan or so. With highest resolution it stops on every scan. How can I reset it, though?

Ultimately, I fixed it myself without HP support. It was a driver issue, because I found the original CD and installed it from there.
