Any time, I scan something on my scanner the pictures on the scan bed , the scan is crooked.  Even when I allign my picture along two corners, it is still crooked.

Also at times, when I scan, the scan cuts off the edges of the scan bed, so I am missing parts of my pictues.

Add information and link to the troubleshooting document

If the issue is actually due to the printer hardware failing to produce acceptable results,

there are limited options to correct the problem.

If the issue is a new one, for example, the printer might need a good cleaning / maintenance.

Original Content

I am guessing you are using HP Smart - Windows to scan the content.

In some respects - at least in this instance - the mobile version of the application might provide similar options.

If there is not any way to straighten the content as it is scanned, edit the scan before it is saved.

There are a couple of ways to approach this.

For example,

To try an prevent the scan from "cutting off" part of the content,

Select Scan Area = Entire Scan Area (glass)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

After the first scan pass, take the opportunity to adjust the "little circle" markers that indicate the four corners of the scan area > Click Apply to "stick that scan boundary".

If that is enough, you are done.

Continue and Save / Share the data.

What if?

Next, select to Edit the scan

Select Crop

Adjust the orientation / angle by 1 degree increments to correct the angle.

OR

In Crop,

Select to Crop the Image to an available size (for example, Custom, Letter, 4x6)

Examples

HP Smart - Windows > Scan Photos > Scan content >

Select Circle ... Select Edit > Crop

2021-05-17.pngIn the last post you mentioned doing this...

HP Smart - Windows > Scan Photos > Scan content >

Preset the content corners and Apply > Edit > Crop

I am on HP Smart and I do not see a windows option to go on.  Is my version not the latest version?

Update

I found a separate thread (different printer) that asks the same question.

It is possible (even likely) that if all attempts to realign the printer do not work, that the underlying cause of the problem is hardware.

I did not see that you confirmed having completed the Troubleshooting.

What if?

If the printer fails the troubleshooting,

If the printer is still in Warranty, contact HP Support and ask for options / help.

Open website  HP World-Wide Support

Select your region and follow the prompts

Original Content - HP Smart scan and then correct "crooked" scans

Another try...

Open HP Smart

If you have not done so, sign into the application

On the main menu, Select box Scan

HP_Smart_W10_Main_Menu_1HP_Smart_W10_Main_Menu_1

Set up the scan job parameters

For example,

Source = Scanner Glass

Presets = Photo

Scan Area = Entire Scan Area OR select the size of your scan

Output = Color

Resolution = 300 DPI

Compression = Medium

When ready, Click Scan

HP_Smart_W10_Scan_Photo_Screen_5HP_Smart_W10_Scan_Photo_Screen_5

After the content is scanned,

Click Circle ... Select Edit

Example shows two actions on one panel to illustrate the screen change...

HP_Smart_W10_Scan_Edit_Select_2HP_Smart_W10_Scan_Edit_Select_2

Edit the content

Place mouse on "0.0"

Slide left or right to change the angle / orientation by 1 degree increments

Click Cancel or Done to stop editing.

What else?

You could possibly try "cropping" the content to one of the standard sizes (letter, 4x6, etc).
