HP Deskjet 3630 Nightmare

Nothing but trouble here. I own a HP Deskjet for about 2 years now and it keeps giving me headaches:

1. I connect to it via USB, since it is literally 10 cm next to my laptop. Printing works, sometimes, but only after waiting very long (> 5 minutes) before a job starts.

2. Scanning doesn't work. Sometimes the windows scan app says there is no scanner (though I see it in the taskbar) and sometimes it says there is a scanner, but once I click it to scan it tells me there was "an issue". Via HP Smart it says the printer is there (USB) and active, but when I click scan, it says "scanning is not available. Go back to start to check whether the printer is connected and active".

3. Via windows printers and scanners it says the printer is there but not-active. When digging further I get various messages, which differ over time: I once got a Error 45 but also a "Device requires further installation".

4. Best of all, when trying HP Scan Doctor: The app itself doesn't come up. Tried the solution for that here, but still no luck: HP Scan Doctor doesn't come up, not after cleaning temp directories, reinstalling and rebooting.

All in all a nightmare.

Even better: When trying to run a printer update via HP Smart it says it can't do that since "someone else is currently trying to update the printer". There are no other HP* processes running I can see via taskmanager

Update: Tried connecting it to my Kubuntu laptop and with Skanlite I get, after 3+ minutes of scanning sounds, an

"invalid argument" error.

If anyone is considering, should I buy a HP Deskjet 3630, please read this thread...
