Hi @VitaliM1986,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there might be a hardware issue with your HP Deskjet F380. The blinking lights for paper and ink, along with the "E" error, indicate that the printer is encountering problems related to paper and ink cartridges, which could potentially affect its scanning functionality as well.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

  • Check Paper and Ink Cartridges: Even though you're not intending to print, having paper and ink cartridges properly installed might resolve the error lights and potentially the scanning issue. Ensure that there is paper in the paper tray and ink cartridges are properly inserted.
  • Reset the Printer: Sometimes, resetting the printer can resolve minor issues. Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord, wait for a few minutes, then reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your printer installed on your computer. You can download the latest drivers from the HP website.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Even if you're not printing, there might be a paper jam or obstruction in the printer's paper path that is causing the issue. Open the printer cover and check for any stuck paper or debris.
  • Clean Scanner Glass: Dust or smudges on the scanner glass can affect scanning quality. Use a clean, lint-free cloth and glass cleaner to gently clean the scanner glass.
  • Perform a Hard Reset: This involves disconnecting the power cord while the printer is on, holding down the power button for 30 seconds, then reconnecting the power cord and turning the printer back on. This can sometimes resolve issues with the printer's internal hardware.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there is a more serious hardware problem with the scanner mechanism itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your response,

I had the idea that the problem could come from the fact that there was neither paper nor ink.

I'm going to try the Hard Reset and if it's not work I'm going to buy cartridges and paper.

Thanks again.
