Hi,

is it possible that I can not scan if the ink cartridges are not in the printer?

Best regards

Johanna

Good News.  It made sense to me that the one cartridge would do the trick.

 Thanks.

I believe you are correct.

This is a printer that also provides a scan ability.

The printer likely requires the ink to be installed and functional .

A quick check...

The User Guide explains that you can use the Single-cartridge mode (just black ink) and still be able to copy and print.  It is possible that single-cartridge-mode includes the ability to scan.

Not sure if the Print and Scan doctor would trip over this one or not.

Worth a try:

Doctor download is about halfway down the page on the center-left.

Yes indeed, using single-cartridge mode you would be able to scan as well,

Without any cartridge installed the printer is in an error condition, with such scanning would not be possible.

You are welcome.

From what I have read about this subject over time...

This is a pretty standard requirement for a printer.  The devices are printers first and "scanners" second.  The printer requires ink to keep the whole mechanism working.  I would guess manufacturing is more efficient and less expensive to tie all the working parts together (ink, carriage movement, lights, other mechanics).  This is a guess, of course.

At least this printer just needs the one black cartridge.
