Hi @Marynimal,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips, Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

I see that you are having some issues with the printer being in an error state.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Do you see an error code number on the display of the printer?  Do you see any flashing lights on the printer?

What is the Operating System installed on the PC?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a Hard reset on the printer.

* With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

* Remove USB cable, if present.

* Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

* Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

* Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

* Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

Let’s first try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you.

My HP ENVY 5660 is in an "Error State" and I have already tried the hard re-set advice I found in this forum.  What to do next?

Hi @MichaelB8,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query. I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are facing issues with your HP ENVY 5660 e-All-in-One Printer wherein it is in error state.

Let's go through a few steps that may help to fix this issue.

I suggest that you follow the step by step guide listed below to reset the printer:

1.Disconnect if there is any fax or USB cable connected to the unit and then turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

2.With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

3.Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

4.Wait at least 60 seconds.

5.Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

6.Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

7.Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on. The printer might go through a warm-up period.
8.Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

If the issue persists, you may update the firmware from the link: EN5660_R1628A.exe

Also, let us know the operating system installed on the computer connected to the printer.

You have a good day ahead.

I've tried all of that. Repeatedly. This printer is easily the most problematic electronic device I've ever owned. It's a piece of garbage, and I intend to tell anyone who will listen. These products should be tested properly before they're put on the market.

I get the above msg and I tried to remove cartridges and do a hard reset but error condition persists, Scan function is fine.
