Thanks for using the HP Support Community.
This printer is designed as such - it's the modern Smart Contextual User Interface. The control panel will light up only when there is a need, for example, when you load a document into the document feeder (for the HP Envy Pro 6455) or open the scanner lid (like your printer), it will light up the "Copy" menu.
