Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

macOS 12.0 Monterey

Hello.

I have a M2 mac with OS15.3 and for some time now the laser printer I purchased a little over a year ago no longer scans 2-sided documents. One-sided scanning works fine. The problem occurs when when I place a  2-sided scan request, the machine scans the first side then I get the "color wheel of death"  when it should prompt to put the documents back into the feeder face down to scan the 2nd side. At that point the program needs to be force closed.

When I reopen Easy Scan the 1st side scans are available to save. So the program is getting hung up prompting for the 2nd side sheets scan.  It is not a duplex scanner so you have to scan one side, then place the documents back into the feeder tray face down for it to scan in the second sides of the pages.  To be clear, it is failing to prompt for the second side scan process.  It used to work when I first set it up.

I have tried:

updating the firmware

deleting and reinstaling both the program and the printer.

Making sure the OS is up to date.

Installing the printer through the apple prompts.

Installing the printer through HP smart

Different orders of those operations.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas? The all-in-one machine is new and has not been heavily used or abused. The easyscan software is dated but I don't see anyhting else offered by HP that offers 2-sided scanning.

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Community! 🎉

I’m here to help you troubleshoot your issue and get things back on track. Just follow these steps below, and we’ll have you running smoothly in no time:

Check Printer Settings via Printer Control Panel: Sometimes, the printer's settings can override those set from your computer.

  • Access the printer’s control panel (directly on the printer).
  • Look for any settings related to double-sided scanning (e.g., duplex scanning).
  • Ensure that any duplex scanning options are disabled, as they could interfere with the process.
  • Try scanning again after adjusting these settings.

Update Printer Drivers: Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause unexpected behavior, like this one.

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model (e.g., HP Envy 7200).
  • Download and install the latest drivers for your printer.
  • Restart your computer and attempt scanning again.

Check Printer Preferences on the Computer: Sometimes, the print dialog settings on your computer may not be applied correctly.

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners on your Mac.
  • Right-click on your HP printer and select Printer Preferences.
  • Ensure that duplex scanning is disabled. Even if it’s disabled in the software, it's worth verifying here too.

Check for Printer Software Conflicts: Multiple printer utilities or apps could potentially conflict with each other.

  • If you're using HP Smart, ensure duplex scanning is turned off in that app as well.
  • If you have any other printer management software, check the settings to make sure duplex scanning is not enabled there.

Reset Printer Settings to Default: If the issue persists, try resetting the printer to its default settings.

  • Go to the printer’s settings menu.
  • Look for an option to reset the printer to factory settings.
  • After resetting, try scanning again to ensure duplex scanning is disabled.

Check Your Document Settings: If you are scanning a document using specific software (e.g., Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat), check that duplex scanning isn't being applied in those programs either.

  • When scanning from these programs, review the scanning settings to make sure duplex scanning is disabled.

I’m pretty confident this will do the trick! But hey, if you run into any bumps along the way or need a little extra help, just give me a shout! I’ve got your back. 💪

I have the same problem here - Printer/Scanner is a HP OfficeJet 6950. Duplex worked fine on my old iMac with MacOS 10.13 for years. After changing HW to a new M4 Mac mini and OS 15.3 scanning duplex no longer works - same issue as you decribed.
The Mac installation was an upgrade of the old iMac via Time Machine backup.
I removed HP files and folders in /Library etc., uninstalled the old HP drivers and programs via HP uninstall tool and reinstalled the HP software via HP Easy Start.
The duplex error/problem is still present. Could this issue be due to an incompatibility of HP Easy Scan with MacOS 15.x ???

@MacDilbert42,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Since duplex scanning worked fine on your old iMac but stopped after migrating to your new M4 Mac mini running macOS 15.3, it does sound like a compatibility issue. However, let’s rule out a few things before jumping to conclusions.

Check System Scanner Support: macOS 15.3 may handle scanners differently. Try scanning using Apple’s built-in tool instead of HP Easy Scan.

HP Drivers vs. macOS Native Support: try removing all HP software again and adding the printer via System Settings > Printers & Scanners to use Apple’s built-in drivers.

Check Scanner Settings: If the scanner is added via AirPrint, it may lack duplex scanning support. Try manually adding the printer using HP’s drivers instead of AirPrint in the printer settings.

Reset Printing System: Sometimes, lingering settings cause issues. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, right-click in the printer list, and select Reset Printing System. Then, reinstall the printer and test again. (Reference: Click here)

Check for Updates: Check HP’s website for any new firmware or software updates specific to macOS 15.3.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue

Hello Garp,
I followed your advice:
a) Reset of printing system
b) Added a new printer: HP Office jet 6950-AirPrint (driver version 4.0) - I assume that this is the Apple driver.
c) Tried duplex scan with HP Easy Scan --> Scan software did not respond after scan of the first page - as you have told me: maybe AirPrint driver lacks duplex support 🙂
d) Reset of printing system
e) Start of HP Easy Start. Easy Start tells me that no HP drivers and no HP Easy Scan can be found - although they are already installed 😞
f) Installed HP drivers and HP Easy Scan once again and let HP Easy Start add the new printer automatically.
g) Now I have printer driver HP OfficeJet 6950 All-in-One with driver version 4.9.0 - I assume: this is the HP driver.
h) Tried duplex scan with HP Easy Scan agin ---> same error as above.
