HP Envy 4500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP Envy 4500 and recently it has started giving me the ERROR: Incompatible Ink. I've take the cartiges out and cleaned them and the printer. I've also tried to just change the ink out thinking it might just be bad ink. Nothing has worked. Someone please help me fix this printer. I really don't want to have to buy a new one.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂

I understand that you have an HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer and it displays an incompatible ink cartridges error. You have cleaned the ink cartridges and have also replaced them and the issue persists. I appreciate your efforts in troubleshooting this issue and have certainly done a good job. You have done a remarkable job in troubleshooting this issue.

Let me know if you're using original HP ink cartridges or refilled ink.

You may check if the cartridge are the right ones using this link: https://hp.care/2wRp3Pw

While you respond to that. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

NOTE: You may skip any steps that you have already performed.

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
  • Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

The steps from this HP document help in fixing incompatible ink cartridge errors: https://hp.care/2JsEmmM

Please review the steps from step 2 to step 5.

I am using brand new HP ink from the store. It's the same one I had in my printer before it started giving me the error.

Glad to have you back. I truly appreciate your patience and efforts.
