HP Envy 4500 all-in-one-printer
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I replaced an ink cartridge on My HP Envy 4500 Printer.  It instructed me to load paper and hit ok to print the alighment page.  It indicates it is doing the task, but nothing is happening.  I've tried to hit cancel.  I have unplugged and restarted the printer and always it requires me to print the alignment page and continues to be stuck with this message, "Now printing alignment page".  Any suggestions?

Thank you for your message.  I was able to bypass the alignment screen and make use of my printer.  I did still make sure that my printer was updated to the most current software and reset to factory settings for good measure.

There is another issue that I noticed before that may be related.  The printer does not accept the command to print color or black & white copies.  I will print documents, but not copy.  Is there something that I can try to fix that?

Thank You,

~Tory

  • When you make a copy, do you get a blank sheet as output?

This is an issue with the scanning mechanism, perform a hard reset and try to connect the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a power strip or surge protector.

Step 1: Reset the printer

1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

2. Wait at least 60 seconds.

3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Step 2: Lift the scanner lid, without placing a document on the scanner glass hit the copy button and check if the scanner lamp moves across and lits up.

Let me know how this goes.

HP Envy 4500 will not copy or scan gets stuck on these tasks

I carried out your steps 1 and 2.  Opened lid and hit copy button (twice) the light did move across and back. But after that the message on the printer was @copying 1 x 1@ and it is stuck there.

Resetting the printer to its factory settings may help.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
