Surface Pro
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am having an issue with scanning directly to my surface Pro as a PDF. It works one time and then when i try and do another page, it says that the printer lost connection with the computer. when i go to the computer i see there is an error and the application needs to restart. i press ok to the error notification and then go back to the printer and scan the next page and it works. i have to repeat this process for every page i want to scan as a pdf and obviously its not working right. when i ran the scan doctor it came back saying that there is a driver error for the scanner. i installed the full feature from the hp website a bunch of times. i uninstalled and reinstalled and still get this issue. can someone give me some insight on this please?

@CR20, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I'd recommend you follow the steps from the document HP Printers - Network Scanner Connection Error to isolate and resolve the issue.

Additionally, Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

hello!

thanks for the reply. the firmware is already the latest version. the WIA is running properly. I ran hp scan doctor and got no errors, but i am still having the issue to scan directly to my computer as a pdf. the problem is onyl to scan as a pdf. it works the first time but when i try and scan a second time as a pdf, there is an error message on my computer that says the application needs to restart. the only way for mt to be able to scan as a pdf again is if i get rid of the error message and then it works but this defeats the purpose of being able to scan directly to my computer if i have to keep going back to it to get rid of the error message. this is something to do with hp software because this was working perfectly before i had to format my computer and then now that i reinstalled the software multiple times, it doesnt work correctly. hp should set up a call with me in my opinion and not look to charge me.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
