Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP Envy 5540

We've had our HP Envy 5540 for about 5 years. It's worked well, until recently when we keep getting a "scanner failure" message when we try to scan or copy.

This can be reset by turning the unit off and then back on. When this happens, we have to select the printer language and locale, then print a test page and align it on the scanner. Annoying, since it slows things down and wastes paper and ink.

The printer firmware version is NBP1CN2023AR. The computers are connected by WiFi and are running either Linux kernel 5.11.0-7614-generic or MacOS 10.13.6. Any suggestions?

@Phil2106, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to scan or copy. To assist you better, was the alignment successful?

Unplug the power cable and hold the power button down for 10-15 seconds and release it. Power on the printer and check for the error.

Check the scanner bar functionality

Perform a visual test of the scanner mechanism to see if it is jammed.

  1. Remove any original documents or photos from the scanner glass.
  2. Lift the scanner lid slightly, and then press the Copy button or icon.

If the scanner light does not move or moves halfway or is not lit, the scanner mechanism is likely jammed/broken.

In this case, please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service/replacement options for your printer.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

Hi, Kumar.

The alignment after power cycling always is successful. We are able to scan or copy a few pages, and then we get the "scanner error" message again. When this happens, the scanning and copying functions stop working until we power cycle again.

I tried copying with the lid slightly lifted, and observed the scanner light moved the full length of the copying area. It seems unlikely that the mechanism is jammed or broken.
