HP Envy 7640 is a refurbrished, but recently purchased printer, wirelessly connected to my laptop. Took several hours to scan a 100+ page, two-sided document using ScanittoPro. Even though I selected the autofeeder and duplex settings in ScanittoPro, the scanner would not scan both sides of the pages. To accomplish the double-sided scan, I ran multiple batches through the automated document feeder and created a single file. Now, the first part of the new digital file is of odd paged scans and the second part of the file is even paged scans.
Is there a better way to execute a large, double-sided scanning job?
Update: I just received an email from HPCUSTOMER871, in response to this posting asking me to call an 800 number. The number (800-638-0690) rings until it stops ringing. No pick up, no voice mail box.

You're welcome @one_computer,
HP Scan extended is actualy the scan portion of the official HP software for your printer.
I suggest giving it a try as the HP software do provide such duplex scan capabilities as you need and might provide you better results on the scan ordering, etc. with such a large batch
I suggest giving it a try, maybe with a smaller job to see it results first..
Please let me know if you may need any further clarifications.

Hi, performing such a large scan job will take quite a lot of time and resources, the feeder cannot handle such big jobs...
800-638-0690 Is a 3rd party support service, not affilated with HP in any way, webhelp-desk.com as a result of google search for that number.. inwould suggest being caution to avoid any fees or lack of any service quality..
you may try HP Scan Extended and check if it may provide better results...
Set the Page Sides as Both Sides, the resolution as 300dpi or lower and check the option to show the scan preview.
load 20-25 pages and press Scan.
load the next batch and press the plus button to scan it, once you are done press save..
HP Scan Extended can be installed from here:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Hope that helps,
Shlomi

THanks, Shlomil. Won't be calling any 800 numbers any time soon. Appreciate the heads up.
I'm sure that a large scan job will take some time, not really complaining about that. It's having to scan both sides of all the pages. I don't mind batching the larger document if the scanner can scan both sides of the original document batch by smaller batch.
Can you tell me more about the HP Scan Extended? What is it and what does it do? Would I be using this instead of ScanittoPro to initiate and control the scan job?

Thanks, Shlomil. It's been a battle trying to get the router and Extended Scan to work properly. Had to reset the router severals times and remove and reinstall all of the HP software. Going to hard wire the HP Envy to the router now and see if that brings some stability. The larger documents may be taxing memory / speed when connected wirelessly.
Appreciate the help. Will come back if I need more help. There is no way I could have worked this out on my own. Glad you were here.

Having some sucess scanning large projects in smaller batches - especially now that I have hard-wired via ethernet, the printer to the router and the router to the laptop. But, frequenty, in mid-scan, an alert shows that the connection has been lost. This is puzzling because all devices are hard wired. I can't make the reconnection and the printer stays in scanning mode even though it is no longer scanning. Solution is to shut down the printer, uninstall the Extended Scan application, reload the application and start the scan over again.
Any idea what is causing this disconnection? Solution?
