My HP Envy 7640 prints perfectly from my macOS High Sierra 10.13.1, but it doesn't even show the scanner in  Preferences, Printers & Scanners.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Can you try this:

From the Applications folder delete any existing HP Scan or HP Easy Scan app.
Delete HP Scan or HP Easy Scan by moving it to trash, then empty the trash.

Ensure the latest software is installed, use this link for your printer:

macOS X : HP Easy Scan

Also, make sure that your drivers are up to date

> Click on the Apple icon, select About this Mac and then press Software Update
>Click Store on the top menu bar, click Reload Page, click Update All if any updated are available.

Hope that helps!

Hi,

I have the same issue.  I can print, but not scan. I have setup the printer with the new network.  All of the print outs say it is connected, etc.  No error messages.  When I try to scan from the printer using the printer's screen it will give me a message that says the scan application on the computer is currently in use,  an OCR application is not installed on the computer or the connection to the computer has been lost.  I know the connection is not lost because I am able to print wirelessly.

The configuration page says 802.11 Wireless is connected.  It says the wi-fi direct status is on and the security is on.

I tried all of the tests from the support page.  The printer used to work just fine and it does print

I am using Windows 7 64bit.  My computer is HP ZBook 15 G3 Mobile.   I have the HP Envy 7640 series basic device software on my computer.  The version is 40.11.1135.17143.  I also have installed the Hp dropbox plugin, the product improvement study for HP envy 7640 series, HP Google drive plugin, HP Envy 7640 series help and HP photo creations.
