Hi @peter4942,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 7800 printer is not scanning properly, you can follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue.

Check Connections.

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network.
  • Verify that the power and USB/Ethernet/Wi-Fi connections are secure.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. Sometimes a simple restart can resolve scanning issues.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause scanning problems. Visit the official HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • HP provides a free tool called "HP Print and Scan Doctor" that can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning issues. Download and run this tool to check for and fix any problems.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Ensure that there are no conflicts with other scanning software or antivirus programs that might be preventing the scanner from working properly.

Verify Scanner Settings:

  • Check the scanner settings on your computer. Ensure that the correct scanner is selected as the default scanning device.
  • Make sure the scanner is not set to a "Sleep" or "Offline" mode.

Test with Different Software:

  • Try scanning using different scanning software. If the problem is specific to one application, it may be a software-related issue.

Inspect Scanner Hardware:

  • Examine the scanner bed and feeder for any obstructions, such as dust, paper scraps, or foreign objects. Clean the scanner glass if necessary.

Reset the Printer:

  • You can try resetting the printer to its default settings. Refer to the printer's user manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Firmware updates can address various issues, including scanning problems.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
