Hi @MLJ6,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy Inspire 7900e series printer is producing blank scans, here are some steps that may help resolve the issue.

Update the HP Smart App: Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on your Mac. Older versions might have compatibility issues.

Update MacOS: Although you are using iOS 14.5, ensure that macOS and the HP printer drivers are fully updated. Check in System Preferences > Software Update for any available updates.

Reset the Printing System:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) in the list of printers, then select Reset printing system....
  • After the reset, reconnect your HP Envy Inspire 7900e by adding it back in the Printers & Scanners menu.

Check Scan Settings in HP Smart:

  • Open the HP Smart app and select Scan.
  • Ensure the scan source, color, and quality settings are appropriate.
  • Try adjusting the settings, especially the color mode, to see if that changes the scan result.

Check the Scanner Glass and Document Feeder:

  • Clean the scanner glass and the document feeder to remove any dust or particles that may obstruct scanning.

Use Image Capture (Built-in App):

  • Open Image Capture (built into macOS).
  • Select your printer from the left sidebar.
  • Try scanning directly from here to determine if it’s an app-specific issue.

Reset the Printer:

  • Unplug the printer while it’s on, wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Retry the scan after the printer has restarted.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Pressed for time I did not immediately have a chance to try all these suggestions.  Meanwhile yesterday Apple did send out the IOS 14.7.1 update which I installed, and this evening my printer did a successful scan.

Thank you, Alden, for you interest and help.
