HP ENVY Photo 6255 All-in-One Printer

When I try to scan for a document that I have I get this message = "Couldn't connect to scanner. HP Smart cannot scan from this printer. Either no scanner is detected or HP Smart is not compatible with the scanner in this printer."

I have tried to install new drivers but they haven't helped. I don't know what else to do.

Hi @Tirisilex1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering issues with your HP ENVY Photo 6255 All-In-One Printer and the scanning function, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem. Here's a guide to help you.

  1. Check Physical Connections:

    • Ensure that the printer is powered on and connected to your computer or network.
    • Confirm that the USB or wireless connection between the printer and your computer is stable.
  2. Verify Scanner Functionality:

    • Make sure that the scanner on your HP ENVY Photo 6255 is functioning properly. You can test this by trying to make a copy directly from the printer. If copying works, it suggests that the scanner hardware is functional.
  3. Update HP Smart App:

    • Ensure that you are using the latest version of the HP Smart app. If not, update the app from the respective app store (e.g., Microsoft Store, Apple App Store, Google Play).
  4. Check for Windows Updates:

    • If you're using a Windows computer, check for and install any available updates. Sometimes, system updates can resolve compatibility issues.
  5. Reinstall HP Smart App:

    • Uninstall the HP Smart app from your computer, restart the computer, and then reinstall the latest version of the app. This process can sometimes resolve software-related issues.
  6. Verify Network Connection:

    • If you are using the printer over a network connection, ensure that the printer is connected to the same network as your computer. Also, check for any firewall or security software that might be blocking the communication.
  7. HP Print and Scan Doctor:

    • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility from the HP website. This tool can automatically diagnose and resolve common printing and scanning problems.
  8. Check for Firmware Updates:

    • Visit the HP support website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Firmware updates can address performance and compatibility issues.
  9. Alternative Scanning Methods:

    • Consider using alternative scanning methods, such as the built-in scanning features in your operating system. For example, on Windows, you can use Windows Fax and Scan or Windows Scan.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
