HP ENVY Photo 7830 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

I scan using HP scan software. When I use A4 mode, about 0,5 cm of the page is cut off on the left side. When I switch to "detect content" it doesn't cut it however I don't use this function as sometimes it doesn't recognise the page correctly.

Also, in "scan all content" setting it doesn't cut off, however it includes "black lines" on the edges of the document, which is not intended.

Overall, I get the best results with the A4 mode, just need to fix the cut off.

I got the latest firmware

  PALSUPPPXN003.2208A.00
  2022-02-17

Software is also updated to the latest version 44.9.2759

Thank you for any suggestions

Hi@sergm,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing issues with the HP ENVY Photo 7830 All-In-One Printer.

I have a few recommendations

  • Try choosing the scan size? e.g. Entire Scan area and Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.
  • Please try to Reset the printer. Resetting the printer can force some types of scanners to calibrate which might fix the problem. Remove any items from the scanner glass and automatic document feeder (ADF), then close the scanner lid.

Resetting the printer can force some types of scanners to calibrate which might fix the problem.
Remove any items from the scanner glass and automatic document feeder (ADF), then close the scanner lid.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer and from the wall outlet or power strip.
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into a wall outlet.
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to a wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
Load the original document or photo, then try to scan.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi,

I tried but it doesnt help. I believe this is a driver issue as the problem is seen only with A4 page size - other scan options are ok. Is there any way to get HP verify the driver itself?

Hi@sergm,

Thank you for responding, I appreciate your time and effort.

You can try updating the printer driver/firmware to the latest from HP.COM.

Please feel free to contact us here anytime you need any further assistance.

Hi

As mentioned in the first post, that has been done already....

Save as JPEG

Page Size = "Detect Photos" tries to detect and select the photos based on the boundaries the printer can "see".

This setting generally works for one or more images places on the printer flatbed.

Photos can also be detected and pulled from a text field (document placed on the glass / flatbed)

Save as PDF

Page Size = "Detect Content" is used with documents - the setup and intent is the same:  the edges of the content placed on the flatbed are "detected" as best can be done.

True -

  • The "Detect" setting is not always perfect - in some cases it is necessary to correct the edges.
  • The advantage of using "Detect", of course, is the Page Size can be any size or shape that fits in the detectable range on the flatbed.
  • The disadvantage of using "Detect" is that the software might not accurately determine the boundaries of the content.

If you do not use one of the Detect settings (for Photos / Documents), then you must select a Page Size from the remaining options.

If the size and shape of the content does not exactly match the size and shape of the selected Page Size, the content will be cropped to match the shape of the selected Page Size.

What?

If the Page Size is set to A4 and the item on the flatbed is not exactly the size and shape of A4 paper, any extra sections will be missing from the scan.

OR

In the case of having selected "Entire Scan Area" - if the size of the content does not exactly match the shape and size of the flatbed, the scan results will leave a "border" along any edge that does not match the size and shape of the field.

What to do?

Whatever you like, actually - select an option and use that.

Examples...

If using "Entire Scan Area", place a white paper on top of the content to be scanned.

Make sure the "cover paper" is larger than the field being scanned.

If you have not done so,

After the item is scanned and before it is saved,

Click on the scanned content to open it and adjust the boundaries.

After the size and shape are adjusted, Click to Save the content.

Examples - HP Scan - Save as JPEG - Detect Photos > Edit / Crop / Add Page / Remove item
