So, I am a scanner enthusiast, and I love using scanner. A day before this problem happens, I get a problem, that I can't use the HP Smart to scan documents, saying that "hp smart cannot scan from this printer". I believe that this is some sort of software problems, so I installed the HP Scan and Capture software instead, and use it to scan. The scanning worked out very well.

Next day, I continued scanning, but this time, I didn't get any result from the HP Scan and Capture, saying that my scan is cancelled (even though I didn't press cancel). I attempted to scan from the HP Smart, which at this time can be ran, but the HP Smart also says that I cancel my scan (even though I didn't press cancel).

I think this is some sort of software problems, so I opted for the Windows Fax and Scan instead. Surprisingly, the software also won't work.

What should I do to solve this problem?

Update: I've figured something interesting. If the scan cover is closed, then the scanning would work completely normal, even though in the middle of the scanning I opened the scan cover, but if the scan cover is opened, then the printer would cancel itself.

Welcome to HP support community.

Make sure the scanner cover is closed while scanning.

Follow the below steps to fix the scanning software issue.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download and install printer full feature driver

Click here to download the driver.

I hope that helps.
