macOS 12.0 Monterey

I bought an HP Laser MFP 135 a while ago because I needed to scan a lot of things in high quality however when scanning (I have a MacBook Pro 2019 with macOS 13.6 Ventura if that helps) the dpi options are (100, 200, 300) only and nothing above when the product description shows that it is supposed to scan up to 600dpi.

I tried using the mac default scanning and printing software to no avail and also downloaded and connected with HP smart on both my Mac and my iPhone but it still only shows up to 300. I tried using a windows laptop in hopes that that might be the issue and downloaded the necessary software but it still only showed up to 300dpi.

I feel like I got scammed when I bought this scanner. Anyone else facing this issue or knows how to fix it?

Hi @SssS19,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's frustrating when a device doesn't meet the specifications it advertised. Let's try a few steps to troubleshoot this issue:

Check HP Scan Software: Ensure you are using the latest version of the HP scanning software. Sometimes, the built-in macOS scanning software may not provide all the options available with the HP software.

Update Firmware and Drivers:

  • Ensure your HP Laser MFP 135W firmware is up to date. You can check for updates on the HP support website.
  • Update the drivers on both your Mac and Windows laptop.

HP Smart App Settings: In the HP Smart app, double-check the scan settings. Sometimes, the DPI settings might be buried under advanced settings.

Try Different Scanning Software:

  • VueScan: This third-party scanning software supports a wide range of scanners and might provide the higher DPI options you need.
  • ExactScan: Another third-party software that might unlock more features of your scanner.

Check Scanner Settings on Windows: Since you've already tried on a Windows laptop, ensure you're accessing the advanced settings in the HP software. Sometimes, higher DPI settings might not be immediately visible.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
