Hi @Sun1999,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I can see from the screenshot that Windows is showing a User Account Control prompt for EDC.exe, with the publisher listed as Unknown and the file located under C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\MFP Scan\.
Before proceeding, please confirm:
Which Windows version are you using (Windows 10 or 11, and 64-bit/ARM64 if known)?
Did this message appear while installing/reinstalling the HP MFP Scan software, or does it appear every time you try to scan?
Does the printer print normally, with only scanning affected?
Is the printer connected through USB or Wi-Fi?
For now, I would not click Yes on the UAC prompt until we confirm that the software was downloaded from HP's official support page for the HP Laser MFP 136nw. HP provides the model-specific software and drivers on its support page.
Once you provide the Windows version and connection type, we can check the appropriate scanner software and proceed from there.
Best regards,

Hi @Sun1999,
Thank you for confirming that the printer is connected through the network and that you are using Windows 11.
The HP Laser MFP 136nw supports network scanning through HP MFP Scan, WIA, and TWAIN, so the next step is to verify that the scanner software is properly communicating with the printer over the network.
Please try the following:
Make sure the computer and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi/network.
Open HP MFP Scan and check whether the 136nw is detected.
If it is not detected, print a Network Configuration Report from the printer and note the printer's IP address.
On the Windows 11 PC, open a web browser and enter that IP address in the address bar. If the printer's Embedded Web Server opens, the network connection is working.
Then try scanning again through HP MFP Scan.
If the UAC prompt for EDC.exe appears again, please don't approve it yet. Let me know whether the printer's IP address opens successfully in the browser and whether HP MFP Scan detects the printer.
HP's current support page provides Windows 11 software and drivers for the 136nw.
Best regards,
Kuroi_Kenshi

Dear HP Support Team,
We are facing a scanning issue with an HP Laser MFP 136nw printer.
The printer is working properly for printing, but the scanner is not working. We have tested the device on multiple computers, and the same scanner software/driver error occurs on all systems.
Details:
- Model: HP Laser MFP 136nw
- Printing: Working properly
- Scanning: Not working
- Computers tested: Multiple computers
- Operating System: Windows 10/11, fully updated and licensed
- Issue: Scanner software/driver is not functioning
- Installation: HP scanner software/drivers have been installed and reinstalled, but the issue remains
Since the same problem occurs on multiple computers while printing works correctly, please provide the latest compatible scanner driver/software or recommended solution for Windows 10/11.
Please also confirm whether there is any known compatibility issue with the HP Laser MFP 136nw scanner software.
Kindly assist us in resolving this issue as soon as possible.
Regards,
Ankit Patel

Hi @Sun1999,
Thank you for providing the additional details.
Since your HP Laser MFP 136nw prints correctly but scanning fails on multiple computers running Windows 10/11, even after reinstalling the scanner software, let's narrow down whether the issue is with scanner detection or the scanning software.
Could you please confirm the following?
When you open HP MFP Scan, does the printer appear in the device list, or does the application display an error?
Can you open the printer's IP address in a web browser from the computer?
Does the scanning error occur immediately when you open HP MFP Scan, or only after you click Scan?
Does the same issue occur when you try scanning using Windows Scan?
HP provides model-specific software and drivers for the Laser MFP 136nw through its official Software and Driver Downloads page.
Since you have already reinstalled the software, please hold off on repeating the installation until we identify where the failure occurs.
Once you share these details, we can determine the next appropriate troubleshooting steps.
Best regards,
Kuroi_Kenshi
