HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276nw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276nw that worked fine.  Now, I can print from my laptop but when I click the scanning app it either does not respond at all, or give me an error message saying scanner communicaiton cannot be established.  There is power, and I can print just fine from my laptop.  I ran the HP scan doctor and it coudln't find my scanner.  I uninstalled everything, and then re-installed everythign and it still doesn't work.

@stevenjz

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand, your printer is giving an error "Scanner communication cannot be established"

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

When was the last time it worked fine?

Were there any hardware/software changes made?

Were you able to make a photocopy?

How is your printer and PC connected (USB or Wireless)?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

Power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Once I have the information, I'll help you further with troubleshooting steps,

Keep me posted,

Have a great day 🙂

Cheers 🙂

-I'm not exactly sure the last time it worked fine- probably a few weeks ago?  That's about how often I scan something...

-Can't recall any hard/software changes.  I installed a new version of a web filter (Covenant Eyes).  That's the only thing that comes to mind

-Yes, I'm able to make a photocopy

-I'm connected wirelessly

I followed the Power Drain steps.  Should I try scanning again now?

Thank you

It says "The scanner is current in use.  Please wait until your previous task is complete and then try scanning again."

I tried to use another scanning app and it says "The scanner is busy"

Sometimes when I click the HP Scan icon on my desktop, nothing happens.

When I looked up Windows Image Acquisition it says "running" for status.

I ran HP scan doctor again and it says there is a problem with WIA scan.  However, after following the instructions it provides on a restart, I get the same problem.

So I think I successfully did all that and I still have the same problem.  I can print fine, but when I click on the HP scan icon, I get this message:

Scanner Unreachable

Scanner communication cannot be established.  Ensure your product is powered on...

If you are installed using a cable connection...

If you installed this printer with an IP address...

If you are running firewall software...

@stevenjz,

Thank you for trying the steps, I appreciate your efforts.

I recommend you create a new user account on your computer and then install the printer software and check whether you are able to scan.

I just tried to scan again and the app opened and I was able to try and scan.  However, after trying for awhile, it then said it couldn't find any document to scan, even though on the printer screen it said "Document Loaded."

I also got on my wife's laptop and tried the scanning app.  Hers says "The HP LJ200 MJ 276 Scan was not found"

I also created a new profile and when I tried to scan it sent me the same lengthy error message "A connection to the scanner could not be established...." that it has sent me before
