Scanning was fine until the other day when it tried to scan the paper and it went in crooked. Paper came out and now I got the scanner error 13 message. I have turned it off and on several times, unplugged, and also reset to factory settings. Message is still there. Please help !

@MISSMONIG,

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums.  After reading your post I see that you need assistance regarding issues scanner errors. It will be a delight to assist you here.

Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂

 For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after a power outage or surge?
  • Does it copies directly

Let me keep you posted that the evidence points to a computer hardware issue and this is only an attempt to try and resolve the issue. If it does not work then the computer needs to be repaired by contacting HP phone support.

For now, try these steps:

  • Please perform all the prescribed steps from this link: https://hp.care/2ryCkrj (HP Printers - Resolving a 'Scanner Failure' Message When Scanning, Copying, or Faxing)
  • Step 1: Reset the printer and check the power source
  • Step 2: Run the Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only)
  • Step 3: Check the scanner bar functionality
  • Service the printer

Check if the scanner glass is lit and if it copies correctly without any communication from the computer after trying these steps:

If the issue continues, then I will send you a private message to perform an NVRAM or Super NVRAM reset on the printer to factory settings. Please check your forum private message box for instructions from me.

I

f the issue continues after this, then contact HP phone support to get the printer replaced as it is faulty. I am being candid about it by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bushes.
