Hello... looking for help with an issue that I can't solve.

 

Trying to setup scan to email.

using an smtp server that I know works on port 25.  Prior printer was configured the same way.

I setup the scan to email and always get a SMTP error.  says the server may be unavailable.

 

Strange thing is that if I setup the email alerts through the settings tab with same smtp settings it works with no error.

 

Tired firmware update.  

tried reset to factor settings.

tried configuring through desktop app also.

 

no luck.

 

any ideas?

Hi Steve,

On the printer homepage, open the Network tab, then click on Network Identification.

 

Set the Primary DNS address as 8.8.8.8

Set the Secondary DNS as 8.8.4.4 and press Apply.

 

Now try scanning and check if you may see any difference with scanning to Email.

I am having the same issue as the OP.

 

The same settings work for alert e-mails, just not the scan to e-mail.

 

In my case I am use AWS and the username is 20 characters long and the password is 44 characters long.

 

Again, there credentials work for sending alert emails.

 

I have tried changing the DNS servers as you suggested but that did not help.

 

Firmware is HP_LaserJet_Pro_M428_M429_series_FW_002_1924A

 

Why would it work for sending alerts bit not scan to email?

this dont help, i have address like IP, so this have nothing to do with DNS.
