Office Jet 3830
Microsoft Windows XP

My HP OfficeJet 3830 is all set up and I can't get my computer to recognize it only for scanner or the scanner does not recognize my printer. I have installed the software from the disk then went to the website and installed it there as well. I also made sure the scanner was enabled which is in. Everything else works perfectly on the printer. Also, I can scan using the printer app on my phone so I know the scanner works. What setting is incorrect on my computer or what is wrong on my computer. I am attaching a screen shot of the error message I get and I double checked, it is enabled and the sanner works using my phone app! Help please! Thank you!

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP OfficeJet 3830 Printer. I understand that you are getting scanner connection issue and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

Restart devices and check driver scan settings.

Run the Print and Scan Doctor.

Uninstall and reinstall the printer software.

Check Windows Image Acquisition settings.

Temporarily disable firewall software on the computer.

  1. Return to the Print and Scan Doctor, click Network, and then click Troubleshoot Firewalls.

Figure : Troubleshoot Firewalls in the drop-down menu

  2. Click the name of any firewall software on your system that has an Enabled status, and then click Disable.

Figure : Example of the Troubleshooting Firewalls window

  3. Try to scan.

Click here and refer the document to perform the above steps.

Let me know if that works.

Cheers.
