macOS 11.0 Big Sur

My OfficeJet Pro 7740 just stopped scanning.  I get a constant message that says "Document not loaded" when it clearly is.  It worked fine up until about 2 weeks ago.  Just can't figure it out.  I'm running Mac Big Sur version 11.7.10   Any ideas out there?

Hi @TargaBoy ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 is experiencing issues with scanning and displays the "Document not loaded" message, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue. Here are some suggestions:

Check Document Placement: Ensure that the document is properly placed on the scanner glass or in the automatic document feeder (ADF) if your printer has one. Make sure it is positioned correctly and is not skewed.

Scanner Glass Cleanliness: Clean the scanner glass with a soft, lint-free cloth. Dust or smudges on the glass can interfere with the scanning process.

Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches.

Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your Mac. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your OfficeJet Pro 7740 model.

Check for macOS Updates: Make sure your Mac's operating system is up to date. Go to the Apple menu > System Preferences > Software Update, and install any available updates.

Reset Printing System: Resetting the printing system on your Mac can sometimes resolve communication issues. To do this:

  • Open System Preferences.
  • Go to Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list sidebar and choose "Reset printing system."
  • Confirm the action and then re-add your printer.

Reinstall Printer Software: Uninstall the existing printer software and reinstall it. Download the latest software from the HP website and follow the installation instructions.

Check Permissions: Ensure that the HP scanning software has the necessary permissions to access your scanner. Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy tab, and make sure the scanning software is listed and enabled for access.

Try Another Scanning Application: Test the scanning function using a different scanning application. If the issue persists with other applications, it may indicate a problem with the printer or drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
