Hi @MASONCO1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's frustrating when a software update causes issues with your printer's functionality. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the scanning issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 after a software update.

  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve software glitches. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: If the issue occurred after a recent firmware or software update, it's possible that there was an issue with the update itself. HP might have released a new update to fix this. Go to the HP Support website and check if there are any new firmware updates available for your printer model. If so, follow the instructions to install the latest firmware.
  • Reinstall the Printer Software: Uninstall the current printer software and then reinstall it. To do this, go to the Control Panel (on Windows) or System Preferences (on Mac), find the printer in the list of devices, right-click it (on Windows) or control-click it (on Mac), and select "Uninstall" or "Remove." Afterward, download the latest printer software and driver package from the HP website and install it.
  • Check Scanning Settings: Ensure that the scanning settings on your computer are correctly configured to use the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) instead of the flatbed glass when you load documents. You can usually find these settings in the HP scanning software or in your computer's scanning application.
  • Perform a Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can try performing a factory reset on your printer. Keep in mind that this will reset all settings to their default values, so you'll need to reconfigure the printer after the reset. Instructions for performing a factory reset can typically be found in your printer's user manual or on the HP website.

Remember to back up any important documents or settings before performing a factory reset, as it will erase all customized configurations.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
