HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 All-in-One Printer
Other

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 9015. About a week ago, it started giving me an error saying I needed to reconnect an ethernet cable even though it had always been connected via WiFi and the option to reconnect the WiFi disappeared. I was able to resolve that by doing a hard reset of the printer to factory settings, however ever since that reset the printer has been producing horrible quality scans and copies on both the glass and the feeder. Both are clean, and this issue only came up after the reset. Printing quality is fine, it is just the scanning and the copying that no longer work. I tried another reset to see if that would fix the problem with no luck. I'm operating on MacOS Ventura 13.5.2, but the issue with the copying makes me think this is not an OS issue, rather the printer itself.

Hi @ggreene28,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's frustrating to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 after a factory reset. Poor scan and copy quality can be caused by various factors, and I'll provide some troubleshooting steps to help you address the problem.

Check for Software Updates:

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware and software are up to date. Visit the HP website or use the HP Smart app to check for and install any available updates.

Clean the Scanner Glass:

  • Dust and debris on the scanner glass can affect scan quality. Gently clean the scanner glass with a lint-free cloth and glass cleaner designed for electronics.

Adjust Scan and Copy Settings:

  • Check the scan and copy settings on your printer. Make sure you have selected the appropriate settings for the type of document you are scanning or copying.
  • For color documents, ensure that the printer settings are configured for color scanning/copying.

Check Ink or Toner Levels:

  • Low ink or toner levels can affect the quality of copies. Ensure that you have enough ink or toner in your printer.

Perform a Printhead Cleaning:

  • If your printer uses ink, you can try performing a printhead cleaning to resolve print quality issues. Refer to your printer's manual or HP's website for instructions on how to do this.

Check Scanner Components:

  • Inspect the scanner components for any obstructions or damage. Make sure that the scanner lid and feeder are closing properly without any loose parts.

Reset Printer Settings:

  • If the factory reset caused issues, you can try resetting the printer settings to default settings and then reconfigure your Wi-Fi connection. This may involve accessing the printer's web interface or using the control panel.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I appreciate your help, however all of these steps have already been taken as I mentioned in my original post and none have fixed the problem.

The software is fully up to date, the scanner is clean, unobstructed and free of debris, the ink is full, there are no issues whatsoever with printing, only scanning and copying, and the printer has been reset to factory settings multiple times. The issue is identical whether scanning/copying from both the feeder or the glass. A printhead cleaning has been performed however as I mentioned above and in my original post, there is no issue with the quality of printing, only scanning and copying.

It was after the initial factory reset that I had to do to fix the WiFi issue that the scanning/copying issues started happening, and I have since tried to reset to factory settings again to see if the issue would resolve and it has not.

As a follow up, I now can no longer scan at all and am getting the following error message:

IOREF: 99999

AlertID: 8048 [scanWarning]

SMS specification not found
