We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

When trying to scan, I get the message that "you need to install or run device software for feature..."

I've been searching for what I need but have been unable to find.  Old replies (2014 and earlier) have a link that brings up an unavailable message.

The problem is that there is no print software for your version of Windows.

 

HP Officejet 4215 All-in-One Printer series - Software and Drivers

 

Instead, you are directed to install the printer manually using available Windows Drivers:

HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver

 
 
Depending on Windows for print drivers is all well and good -- but Windows drivers only provide basic print function.
 
 
One of the following might work:
 
  • HP Scan Extended – Exceptional standalone scan program:  Single, Multiple scans, image and PDF scans, Auto-Crop!
  • NAPS2-- Not another PDF Scanner - standalone program scans PDF files and image(s) as PDF file(s)
 
 
Commentary
 
If you can, it is perhaps time to upgrade your printer.  Many new printers still provide printer software for Windows 7... do check the printer specifications on a printer may purchase to ensure the printer (of any brand) that you choose does still actually provide software for Windows 7).
 
Know that if you upgrade your Operating System to Windows 10 (either by installing Windows 10 on your current computer or by buying a new computer with Windows 10 already installed), the 4215 printer is NOT supported for the newer operating system.
