Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

It appears that my HP Solution Center has stopped working.  I am able to print though, but I cannot communicate with the scanner any longer.    Is there another HP Scan program I can use that will give me access to my scanner for basic scanning needs?  I had this problem a year ago, and someone told me about another program (much older one) that worked just fine.  But since then, my computer was struck by lightning, and I have another computer now.  I have my printer/scanner/copier hooked up and for printing it has been working just fine.  This is the first time I tried scanning, and discovered the HP Solution center was no communicating with the scanner.  So if anyone know of that old basic scanning program, I would appreciate it if they could let me know where to find it.  Thank you.

There is nothing older - there are different scan software / application options that might work for you.

Caveat(s)

  • The scanner hardware has to be functional - nothing will help if the printer cannot scan the content
  • Whether or not you can open the main print menu in Solution Center, the printer software must remain installed to use at least some of the alternatives

Start with HP Scan (ignore if this option is closed / not working for you)...

Assuming the main printing software is still installed...

Printing from other software might still work (for example, from Word).

The software - except for the startup / main menu - still works.

HP Scan can be called from the bin location.

Start Scan using HP Scan executable

You might be able to simply start HP Scan / Scan using the program executable.

For example:

The old Solution Center Scan software is located in "Digital Imaging"

C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\

OR

C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\

Find and Double-Click on scan File name / executable to start HP Scan

For example:

hpiscnapp.exe

OR

hpqkygrp.exe

If available,

Right-Click on the executable and Send to > Desktop to create a shortcut.

===========================================================================

What else?

Try / Consider other Scan software / applications...

HP Scan Extended can be a nice addition to your already installed printer software.

If it works (can be installed and is functional in your environment),

HPSE provides some nice features, including Detect content boundary options and More > Destination folder assignment.

HP Scan Extended

  • Download-Save-Install

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

  • HPSE is a subset an older Full Feature Software suite.
  • HPSE features are very similar to the HP Scan Software released after 2015.
  • Although HPSE appears to be a separate software, HPSE is dependent on the infrastructure provided by the Full Feature Software (full driver).  The Full Feature Software for your printer should be installed before installing and using HPSE.
    • OPTIONAL:  Add HP Scan Extended shortcut to Taskbar / Send to Desktop / Pin to Start
      • Open File Explorer > Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Scan Extended\bin
      • Right-Click HPScan.exe > Select Pin to Taskbar
      • Right-Click HPScan.exe > Select Send to Desktop (Create a Shortcut)
      • Right-Click HPScan.exe > Select Pin to Start

  • HP Scan Extended features include (and are not limited to): Single, Multiple scans, Image and PDF scans, Email as PDF / JPEG, Source selection, Page Size choices include Auto-Detect (extracts image / document boundary).  Might include OCR (Save as Editable Text).

Hello Dragon-Fur,

And love your handle, BTW!  Thank you so much for all that very valuable in informative information.  I have copied and saved every word of it, and put it in my HP Printer file for future reference.

I did get the scanner working though.  Because in searching around the internet for solutions (I'm impatient, so I went looking at other helpful groups too) and in one of them someone mentioned a stand-alone program called VueScan.  I downloaded the program, it worked just fine, and it communicated with my HP Officejet without any issues at all, right off the bat.  So for now my problem is resolved.  But still, I never expected to have problems to begin with, but I did.  So the information you were so kind and thoughtful to share is something I do not want to lose.  So again, thank you for your time and effort.  And now that I have multiple solutions, I hope I may never need to go searching for answers regarding this issue anyway, ever again.

With much appreciation,

Sandie

You are welcome.

I remember VueScan.  I checked into it years back for someone.  I tried it - seemed very nice.  Benefit >> the software supports a wide variety of platforms - excellent for legacy printers, I think.  After testing, I wanted to save my work.  I found out that (at the time), unless I purchased the software, all my files were splashed with large "VueScan" logos.   Meh.  Moved on.

There are many options - the one you chose is a good one.

Happy Scanning and Printing.

Hello Dragon-Fur,

You are correct, the VueScan had an "ink mark" across the scan, but since it worked so well, immediately, I purchased the program, saved the installation program to keep it on hand, should I ever need to re-install it, along with my purchase receipt.  It is a pay once, use forever program, so I thought it worth the cost to prevent having issues again.

I never expected my beautiful HP Envy to be electrocuted through the Modem/Ethernet cord either, but it happened.  Ever since I have battled one issue after another with my HP Printer.  I know it's old and out of date, but it has always worked great, so I don't want to buy a new one if I don't have to.

Again, thank you for your advice and information.

Have a good day,

Sandie
