HP Officejet 6600
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

My Officejet 6600 will print but won't copy or scan.

On the screen of the printer, it displays the "Original Loaded" message all the time, although there are no documents loaded, and the ADF seems fine. I checked if there was a paper jam or any paper scraps. But, everything was good.

I have the tried the several types of reset (soft, hard, semi, ...), but that didn't solve the issue.

The printer is plugged directly into the wall. The screen stays on although I have power saving on. In the past, the screen would go off after a few minutes of idle time.

When I press the Copy button, the display shows "Starting Copy" continually for several minutes. When I press the Scan button or "Scan to computer" from my Laptop, the printer or Laptop HP software indicates it cannot connect to printer/computer.

I've looked at other posts, and it seems the common solution is to send someone a PM on how to fix the problem. Is there any reason to just not post the solution for everyone with this problem to see?

 Can anyone help?

Thank you,

@lassaf

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One Printer and it is unable to make a copy and scan. The printing is fine.

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Have you tried to make a copy/scan using the scanner glass bed and the ADF (document feeder) also?
  • When attempting to copy/scan, do you see if the scanner bulb is glowing/illuminating?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
  • Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

If the scanner bulb is glowing.illuminating while attempting to make a copy/scan then the scanning/copy hardware should be fine. While scanning from the glass bed, the original document, the bulb glows and moves to scan/copy the document. Whereas, while scanning/copying using the document feeder, the document moves through the ADF and the scanner bulb remains stagnant.

Also, ensure that while copying a document, the correct paper size and type is selected: https://hp.care/2H0QLL6

If the bulb is not glowing then it is a hardware failure and you may reach out to our HP phone support team to explore the available service options. The phone support team can be contacted via this link: https://hp.care/2uJxnug

Secondly, if the scanner bulb is glowing and working as expected and still the copy or scan is not happening then let us perform a reset on the printer. A private message has been sent with the reset instructions.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Feel free to keep me posted for any further assistance.

Cheers! 🙂

Hi MKazi,

Thank you for the response.

When I try to make a copy using the scanner glass bed, the screen shows "Starting Copying" message and gets stuck on that forever. I don't hear any sound in the printer at all. Hitting the X cancel button does not do anything.

When I tried to reboot the printer by pressing the power button off and then on, I got a weird screen. A blue screen showing the power symbol (i.e. circle with a vertical link in the middle) with the following code below it: 00759C98 and all the lights of the buttons on both sides of the screen are blinking. Check it here:  https://photos.app.goo.gl/TXS7nKJXnsuMBuP23)20180401_162644_.jpg

I tried to reboot the printer multiple times by pressing the power button. That didn't help.

I disconnected the power cord from the back of the printer, waited for 60+ seconds, then reconnected the power cord back. When the printer rebooted, I got a message stating "Unable to scan, copy or send a fax". The title of that screen read "Scanner Failure"... Trying to copy again gave me the same screen.

Then, I followed the instructions listed below. I got the same error message "Scanner Failure" again. I didn't see the bulb illuminating.

@lassaf

Thank you for replying with the results. I truly appreciate your efforts and patience.

The evidence points towards a hardware issue with your HP printer. The scanning hardware has failed (bulb is off). Hence you may contact our HP phone support team to check the available service options for your printer.

The phone support team may be reached via this link https://hp.care/2uJxnug

However, if you have any further questions then feel free to keep me posted.

Cheers! 🙂

Hello Mkazi,

I have the same problem as lassaf except no error  only the "Original document Loaded".  I have done everything that the above members have done including doing a printer reset and still the same error. I don't use my printer very much and even less when it comes to scanning/faxing. It just sits on my shelf connected to the wireless network in standby mode collecting dust. I bring that up to show that there is hardly NO USE on the printer at all which eliminates wear/tear on lifting the scanner door / ADF having something jammed in the roller or feeding mechanism / light bulb going out / or removing and replacing the paper tray. Although Over the 6 or so years I've had it I have had to replace the toner cartridges twice and I almost never print in color so I guess this printer also eats color toner (hehehe). PLEASE ANYBODY AT ALL can tell me how to update the firmware/back rev the firmware/ hit a combination of keys while powering up the printer / to clear this error???? The printer is YEARS out of warranty and to be honest the few times I've used it I was extremely pleased with its performance. Thusly no need to extend the warranty if its even possible. Once again I thank you or anybody who can POST THE FIX I will be an ever vigilant and devout customer of HP aka Compaq.  😃
