HP Officejet 6950 AIO

Hello, I have the following problem with my HP Officejet 6950 AIO: When testing the fax function or when trying to fax, I get the following messages: "The printer's fax component is damaged and cannot perform a fax test." or "Sending and receiving faxes is not possible." A hard reset was unsuccessful! What can I do? Best regards Torsten Hofmann

Hi @Hofi1968,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems that your HP OfficeJet 6950 AIO is experiencing a significant issue with its fax functionality. The messages you’re encountering, such as "The printer's fax component is damaged and cannot perform a fax test," often indicate a problem with the internal fax module of the printer.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.

Check for Updates: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve software-related issues that affect fax capabilities.

Reset the Printer: Although you mentioned that a hard reset was unsuccessful, it might be worth trying again:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.

Factory Reset: If the issue persists, consider performing a factory reset on the printer. This will reset all settings back to the original configuration:

  • Access the printer's control panel, navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.

Check Connections: Ensure that the phone line is securely connected to the fax port of the printer. If you're using a VOIP service, make sure it's compatible with the printer's fax functionality.

Fax Test: After trying the above steps, conduct a fax test to see if the problem persists. You can do this by going to the fax menu on the printer's control panel.

If these troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, it may indicate a hardware failure in the fax component.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
