Officejet 7610

Hello,

The scanner on my officejet 7610 series device lately been having issues when sanning documents in A3. I have tried scanning in different sizes like A4, Letter, Legal and it seems to be working with no issues but as soon as I try to scan in A3. It will scan one or two document but after that I get a warning message on the printer saying "Unable to scan, copy or send a fax".

When I press "OK", it's stuck saying "Now Scanning" and if cancel the job, it's stuck on "Scan Cancelled".

The HP Easy Scan application cannot communicate with the scanner and says "An error occured occurd while communicating with the device. Please check that the device is properly connected and powered on".

The only way to get it back working is to turn off the printer and turn it on multiple times and then I am able to scan a few more documents until it starts all over again.

I have tried updating the printer's firmware, reseting the printer to factory defaults multiple times, updating the software and drivers on my comptuer, trying and using it with a network cable and USB.

Any help is highly appreicated.

A warm welcome to HP Support Community!

A Scanner Failure error typically indicate that there is an issue with scanner hardware or power, such as a scanner bar jam or calibration issue, low scanner bulb temperature, or an internal or external electrical problem. Power resetting the printer may clear the error, let's try these steps:

Please ensure the printer is up-to-date with its firmware. If you are unsure, you can download and install the latest firmware update from here.

1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector

2) Remove all of the ink cartridges from the printer and close the door

3) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer

5) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the ink cartridges.

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks so much for your response.

Unfortunately reseting the printer didn't clear the error. I've tried doing it several times without any ssuccess.

I am assuming that the main problem is, the scanner head not making it to the starting place when it completes a scan job and that's why I am able to scan one or two documents before the printer starts saying "unable to scan".

I took this photo after the printer went into "unable to scan" mode and as you can see the scanner head is a little outside, sorry about the reflection though.
