Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP Officejet 7740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I attempt to install the "Full Software and Drivers" (OJ7740_Full_WebPack_40.12.1161_1.exe) it does not install the scanning software.  The scanning capabilities went away after a recent Windows 10 update.  I am able to scan with the "HP Smart" application.  However, this does not provide the ability to perform certain functions and integration that the full software drivers did.  Lost functionality seem to include:  OCR functionality and integration, Ability to make specific scan templates for different scanning configurations of different documents.

I would prefer to utilize the Full Software and Drivers but it never installs properly.  The full software install gets to the "Next finish setting up your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 series by activating..."  The software install gets prompts me to "install the latest HP Easy Start Software" then tells me that it cannot be installed because the browser isn't supported.
I then proceed to utilize the "HP Easy Start" software to install the "Full Software and Drivers"  This brings me full circle to software install issue.

I have two window's 10 machines that I cannot install the full software.  Both are Windows 10 64bit.

Troubleshooting steps done so far:

Uninstalled printer software 3 times ( also utilized printui.exe /s)

Restarted device each time.

Powered off printer each time.

Reinstalled printer software 3 times

@KevinJ3, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to install the full feature printer driver. Have you tried a clean reinstallation?

Root uninstall and reinstallation of printer drivers:

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP OfficeJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer-related folders & files.

Click here to download the HP Full-feature driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

@KevinJ3,

In addition to @Kumar0307  contribution, here is a supplement. Readiris Pro is also available for download (File name: Readiris14ProHPWin.zip (381.8 MB)).
