Hello kind help!

 

I own a new laptop HP Pavilion 16 AF0002na. Its setup was configured for me on my behalf. I am an older person with limited computer knowledge re setting up, but I do pay attention to details, hopefully accurate. I am from the UK, and find computer fault help can sometimes be ambiguous.

 

My existing printer is an HP Officejet 8600 Plus unit. Its document scanning facility will not enable the transfer of scan data to my new laptop using the printers own “scan to computer” facility. The system worked fine with my previous desktop unit, and this printer does work fine as a printer with my new HP Laptop which is configured with Windows 11. I use my printers document scanning facility quite frequently. 

 

I need to understand the correct fix for this problem even if I require someone else to help me set it up. I notice there is a large amount of conflicting information when this problem is “Googled” referring to Apps, HP smart apps and “Full Feature HP software” whatever that is. The App has been discontinued, the HP smart app was mentioned later as not suitable. If URL links could be provided, that would be hugely helpful.

I understand that you're having trouble scanning documents from your HP Officejet 8600 Plus to your new HP Pavilion 16 AF0002na laptop running Windows 11. I appreciate your patience, and I’ll guide you step by step to resolve this issue.

Possible Causes:

  • The “Scan to Computer” feature might be disabled.
  • The necessary HP software (Full Feature Software) might not be installed.
  • Windows 11 might not have the required drivers after the system setup.
  • Connectivity issues between the printer and laptop.

Try these steps:

1. Ensure Your Printer and Laptop Are Connected Correctly

  • If using USB, ensure the cable is properly connected.
  • If using Wi-Fi, make sure both the printer and laptop are on the same network.

2. Install HP Full Feature Software & Drivers (Recommended Method)

Since HP Smart App might not fully support your printer’s scanning features, you need the Full Feature Software:

  • Download the latest driver package from HP’s official site:
    HP Officejet 8600 Plus Driver & Software
  • Select Windows 11 as the operating system.
  • Download and install the Full Feature Software and Drivers package.

3. Enable 'Scan to Computer' in HP Printer Assistant

Once installed:

  • Open HP Printer Assistant (Search for it in the Windows Start Menu).
  • Click Scan > Manage Scan to Computer.
  • Ensure Enable Scan to Computer is checked.

4. Use Windows Scan or HP Scan

If the issue persists, try using an alternative scanning method:

  • Windows Scan App:
    • Open the Microsoft Store, search for Windows Scan, and install it.
    • Launch the app, select your printer, and try scanning.
  • HP Scan Software:
    • If installed with the Full Feature Software, open HP Scan from the Start menu and try scanning.

5. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Automatic Troubleshooter)

  • Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • Open it and select your printer.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to fix scanning issues.

Hello Zoey,

 

I much appreciate your help and support. As mentioned I am am older person, and do not find these setting up problems very easy. A family member set me up with the HP app which works OK but also informed me that the built in HP system would be better.
