PageWide Pro 477
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (64-bit)

Hi

We have several HP PageWide Pro 477 devices here and they are configured to scan to network folders which reside on our Windows Server 2012 R2 servers.

We've now had to disable SMB1 as part of a security compiance process and have been surprised that the scanners have stopped scanning to network folders, complaining that they can't connect to the server. Enabling SMB1 resolves the issue.

There don't appear to be any SMB settings in the web interface for the HP devices.

Can anyone confirm whether those devices support SMB2 or 3? It would be a surprise if they only support v1 considering the age of that protocol and that other HP scanners support SMB2/3 now.

Thanks

Olly

Anyone?

With SMB1 disabled the printer won't scan-to-folder, yet it's a new device and really should support it.

Anyone know why this might be?

I can confirm that with SMB1 disabled  all HP pagewide series do not scan to folder .

I had checked on x476 x477 and x576 with no luck.

I Hope HP run very quckly to fix this Shame.

I recall to HP that Technet and Microsoft already added SMB1 to the Windows Server 2012 R2 deprecation list in June 2013

Thanks for confirming that.

It's a shame as it's a great printer and, I thought, new enough to support SMB2+.

I installed the latest firmware and under networking an improved SNMP setting was available.

I disabled SNMPv1/v2

Enabled SNMPv3

Added an appropriate service account.

Was able to scan to PCs with SMBv1 disabled.

Hmmm. I just checked this morning and our unit doesn't have any new firmware available, according to the web interface. The firmware installer from the HP site doesn't pick up our scanner either.

Our firmware is dated Jan 2017.

I can't see any SMB settings in the Network options at all, so we're still limited to SMB1 here.

What model number is your unit? Ours is D3Q20B which appears to be one of the few that ISNT covered by the recent firmware update.

**bleep**.

Found a newer firmware tool from March:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pagewide-pro-477dw-multifunction-printer-series/...

This was same for my model m475dn laserjet 400.  After install I had improved networking settings.

Important: It does not say anything about SMB.  Just SNMP improvement (assuming your model shows the same).

Important: snmpv1/2 needs to be at least read only for print server discovery, or it shows offline.

snmpv3 allowed for my SMBv1 blocked network to continue scan to folder again.

Can you describe what you did to enable the scan-to-folder function with the PageWide Pro 477 with SMBv2 ? 5 Minutes ago i talked to the HP business support and a lady told me, that it is impossible to scan to folder with smbv1 disabled. Besides that she is not convinced that disabling smbv1 is absolutely neccessary for security reasons.

Anyway, when i restart the server service (win 7 pro, smbv1 disabled) i am able to scan to network folder for a short time, after that i will get a network error, firmware is up to date.
