Hello,

 

I have two printers from HP.

 

Photosmart 5520 and 5524

 

Both have stopped scanning. They were bought around the same time. 5520 has been used weekly and the 5524 has not been used much over the last couple years. 

 

The 5520 since 3 days ago started showing a scanning problem, message when turned on.  

 

I turn on the 5524 hoping it would a good back up and yet despite not being used it also has the same fault!

 

So now i have two HP printers that will not scan.

 

What are the chances that both would stop working in 2018?? 

 

Please advise how I can fix

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums After reading your post I see that you are getting scanner issues on both of your HP Photosmart 5520 series Printers. I will be a delight to assist you here.

Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. 🙂  Kudos to you on that score.:)

 

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

When did this issue start?

Did you do any changes to printer?

Are you getting any error message?

Open the scanner lid, initiate scanning and check if the scanner light is lit up and moving across the scanner glass?

Are you able to do standalone copy?

 

Meanwhile

Perform a power reset

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  6. Turn on the printer
