Hi @wiljasz ,

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

The Barachiel is at your service.

I understand you are in need of support,

I'll be glad to help you out, however, for an accurate solution I will need more details:

Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?

When was the last time it worked without these issues?

In the meantime, please try the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: Disable IPv6 on the printer

Use the menu on your printer control panel to set IPv4.

  1. From the home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon .

  2. Touch the Settings icon , and then touch Advanced Settings.

    Figure : Advanced Settings menu

    • If IPv6 is set to Off, the printer is already using IPv4. Skip to the next step.

    • If IPv6 is set to On, touch to turn it off, and then touch Yes to confirm.

  3. Try printing from AirPrint.

If the issue persists, continue to the next step.

Step 2: Turn off Internet Printing Protocol over HTPPS (IPPS)

Change the Internet Printing Protocol over HTPPS (IPPS) setting.

   CAUTION:

Turning off Internet Printing Protocol over HTPPS disables encryption of print jobs. This is not recommended for printers in public locations.

  1. Print a Network Configuration Page, and then locate the URL(s) for Embedded Web Server.

Figure : Example of the EWS URL on the Network Configuration Page

EWS URL on the Network Configuration Page
  2. From a computer connected to your network, type the entire URL into an Internet browser, and then press Enter. If the webpage remains blank, try a different Internet browser.

Figure : Example IP address in the browser

Example IP address for the printer typed in the browser

    The EWS displays.

  3. Click Network, and then click Internet Printing Protocol.

The Internet Printing Protocol screen displays.

  4. Clear the Internet Printing Protocol over HTPPS (IPPS) box, and then click Save.

Figure : Internet Printing Protocol screen

  5. Try printing from AirPrint.

You may also refer to this link and try the steps you haven't tried yet. 🙂

Keep me posted. 🙂

If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!

Hi!

Thank you for reply. I've checked the solution you gave and come with reuslts:

- this model doesn't have support for IPv6, therefore I can't turn it off, it's default to IPv4

- this model also doen't support AirPrint, so OSX won't show it up as AirPrint device

- disabling IPP doesn't change scanner functionality

- this device is connected with USB cable (cable is double checked and it works fine)

- this device works perfectly well as a printer connected by USB or Bonjour

- this device fails to work as scanner no matter which way it is connected - USB or Bonjour

When launching Image Capture - native application which came with system - there is only info on screen "waiting for scanner'.

In the system log however there is some lines that are suspicious:

com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.apple.xpc.launchd.user.domain.502.100008.Aqua): Could not import service from caller: caller = otherbsd.259, service = com.hp.productresearch, error = 119: Service is disabled

and

HPScanner[2114]: HPScanner(2114,0x7fffb2172380) malloc: *** error for object 0x6040004290e0: pointer being freed was not allocated

Are those drivers signed and accepted by Apple? Maybe they are disabled by SIP (System Integrity Protection)?

It looks like you were interacting with @Barachiel, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out.

Removing the existing printer driver and adding a compatible driver may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1.) Download and install HP Printer Drivers v5.1 for OS X from here.

2.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

3.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign  to delete the printer.

4.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list.

5.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

6.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

7.) Try to print and scan.

Let me know how it goes!

Hello

Thanx for reply and sorry for my delay in topic.

Since last my activity in this topic I've upgraded my system to OSX 10.14.1. This upgrade didn't come with solution out of the box. So, I've looked at these steps you gave.

First, downloaded drivers you provided. Removed printer that was on the printer list. Installed new drivers. During installation I've got error. Problematic file was 'hp_io_enabler_compound.kext' located in /Library/Extensions. Installer couldn't update this kext extension. Afer installer finished it's work, I've located that file in given path, remove it and installed drivers again. This time without error message.

Added printer from Printers panel in System Preferences.  It got right icon. It prints. But when I switch to scanner - it stays on message 'Waiting for scanner'. So, nothing changed.

In the same time demo of commercial scan software works flawlesly.

So, looking for other, working solution, how to get back scanner to work with native software.

Best regards

Let's check if we can scan using HP Easy Scan and Image Capture. Download and install HP Easy Scan from here

If in case HP Easy Scan application fails, try using Image capture to scan.

Here is how to do it:

1.) On your Mac, open Finder

2.) Click Applications and open Image Capture

3.) Select your printer name under Devices.

Refer to this document for instructions on how to scan using Image Capture.

Keep me posted!

Hello

I have installed HP Easy Scan already, but I've downloaded it once again, reinstalled and run. I've choose Hp Photosmart Ink Adv K510 connected via USB in pull down menu located in the upper part of window, then selected profile and next pressed Scan. As previously I got only "Preparing to scan' and never ending progress bar.

Similar situation is with Image Capture - after selecting scanner I see - "Preparing scanner", then "Scanner is warming up". That is all, no reaction.

For me it looks like drivers are screwed up and they are not compatible with newer OSX systems. The scaner worked fine with OSX 10.10 Yosemite. I suspect that System Integrity Protection (SIP) doesn't allow to start drivers because they are not signed or signed with wrong certificates.

Any chances to see updated and working drivers from HP? And that someone on the HP side just connect this device and see that it just doesn't work with current OSX?

Thank you for your time.

Best wishes

You are welcome!

Let's try resetting the mac printing system:

Note: Resetting the printing system removes all printers and scanners from the printers queue and clears all print jobs and print settings from the system, including printers and scanners that are not from HP.

1.) Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.

2.) Click Printers & Scanners, Print & Scan, or Print & Fax.

3.) Right-click (or Control + click) anywhere inside the Printers window, and then click Reset printing system.

4.) Click Reset or OK.

5.) If prompted, type your username and password, and then click OK.

6.) Turn off the printer, wait 5 seconds, and then turn on the printer.

7.) Wait until the printer is idle and silent.

8.) In the Printers window on the Mac,click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

9.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Hi!

Thank you for your tips. I did these steps before, but to be sure, did this procedure once again.

The results are just the same. Scanner won't start on HP drivers. When I run commercial software - it works flawlessly. Also, I can do scan thru printer's web interface (which is terrible bad).

To do another test, I grab my Macbook. Did clean install of HighSierra, installed drivers mentioned few posts ago, connected printer via USB and... guess what? Scanner don't work.

This all points that:

- hardware is OK because it works with other ways to get scan (web interface or commercial software),

- supplied drivers by Apple/HP don't work no mather what operations are made (tested on 2 computers, where one was clean install)

Any ideas for bit more advanced user how to get scanner working with HP Scan or Image Capture?

With best regards

wiljasz
