Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).
Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

The scan function on the printer/scanner shows 2 choices, either to computer or memory card. When select computer, it says "Try starting scan from computer. Refer to documentation for details." When I scan from my computer, the HP app shows that the printer works fine but says it will not support the scanner. Tried the scan doctor but it doesn't amount to any resolution.

Printer - Age and Connection

I found a "purchase review" article for this printer dated 2011 -- the printer is near the edge of not being supported by HP Smart due to age AND there is no mention of the printer supporting a network connection (USB only).  The HP Smart app needs that network connection for some tasks.

Related to the HP Smart Application

What to do?

You could try

  • Restart everything, including the router that runs your network (Yes, I realize the printer is not connected to the network)

Next

  • Reset the HP Smart application -- doing so MIGHT fix the problem though much depends on why the app and the task are failing.

Reset HP Smart Application

Reset the HP Smart application - This action removes the app data.

Open Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

Search and Find HP Smart in the apps list

Open Advanced options > Reset the app

Restart the computer and log in

Open HP Smart > Sign in > Add Printer(s)

If the app Reset does not work

Next,

Uninstall the HP Smart App from Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

Restart the computer and log in

“Get” a new copy of the HP Smart application from the Microsoft Store

Open HP Smart > Sign in > Add Printer(s)

You did not mention your Operating System / version.

Windows 7 through Windows 10 / Windows 11

In this case the Operating System information is important in the respect that the printer is only minimally supported in Windows 7 through Windows 10 .  The printer is not supported n Windows 11.

The minimal support option for Windows 7 through Windows 10 includes installing the Windows built-in print drivers.

What?  There is no "full driver printer software" listed for this printer and Windows 10

HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver

Scan?  See Section FAQ > How do I use the printer functions with the built-in driver?

Example

Scan documents and photos: Complete scan jobs with a Windows app that works with the built-in driver.

  • Windows Fax and Scan: In Windows, search for and open Windows Fax and Scan. Click New Scan, and then select your printer.
  • Windows Paint: In Windows, search for and open Paint. Click FileFrom scanner or camera.
  • Windows Scan app: In Windows, search for and open the Windows Scan app. If it is not listed, go to Windows Scan (in English) to install it.

HP printers - Windows built-in driver fails to install
