HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP M479FDW
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This is a brand new printer connected to a Dell XPS 8930 PC running Windows 10 64 bit. This printer appeared to install correctly but I am unable to scan from the PC using any of the scan methods. Prints Ok, although did give paper size errors for a while (expecting Letter when A4 is loaded). Print & Scan Doctor reports that all available scan methods fail (Windows, TWAIN) except HP Scan which passes, but then when I try an initiate a scan using HP Scan the following error is generated:

The scanner failed to complete the scan. Verify that the scan feature is enabled in the device. If scanning is enabled, a problem might have occurred while applying your scan settings.

Looking into the error, I found one forum where someone mentioned that Webscan needed to be enabled, as it is disabled by default. However, logging in the embedded web server (EWS)  and navigating to the Scan Page > Scan to Computer > Webscan, the following is listed:

You cannot use this function because it has been disabled. .For more information, contact the person who set up this computer.

I have not disabled any scan features of the printer and cannot find any instructions on how to enable them if they are disabled by default. To make it more confusing, I am able to scan using the printer control panel to scan to a network folder, so it would seem that the network connection to the printer for scanning  is working  at some level, I am just unable to use the Windows App HP Scan or HP Smart to scan directly to the PC.

HP Print & Scan Doctor also sometimes reports that the printer is out of paper and to load Letter, even though have I A4 loaded in the printer  and have changed every default and printer preference to A4.

 Other info about the installation:

 1) Printer firmware updated to the latest version

2) Installation performed using the latest full  driver package connected via ethernet.

3) IP address correctly assigned and can open EWS via browser..

4)  Installation appears successful  - can print ok and scan directly from the printer to a network folder.

5) Have completely removed  all printers and software, and reinstalled after restarting several times.
