Hello,
Ever since the last round of Windows updates, the HP Scan utility will no longer save scanned files properly. Photos will be saved as blank white images (with very small file sizes such as 67K, instead of the usual several MB).
PDFs, will not even save at all.
This makes the HP software unusable for any purpose, which is sad, because the HP software is the only way to make use of multiple page scanning from the ADF into a single PDF file (something I make a lot of use of), as well as two-sided scanning.
I know that the scanner itself works, because the preview looks perfect. And I know that I can actually save files because Windows Fax and Scan correctly saves files.
Steps I have taken:
- Completely uninstalled and re-installed the HP full featured software package.
- Double-checked complete write permissions on the destination folder where scans are saved.
- Restarted the machine.
So far nothing has worked.
I really need to get the HP Scan software working again, as I use the features I mentioned above.

Please try HP Scan Extended using the following software
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, for Windows 10:
(a) Hit Win key,
(b) Scroll down to HP group/folder,
(c) Double click "HP Scan Extended"
Regards.

Hello, Thanks for your prompt reply.
HP Scan Extended seems to save files properly (tested with a photo).
However it has created another issue... it can only scan a Maximum of 300dpi
I usually scan photos at 600dpi or higher. Is there a way to get the full resolution with HP Scan Extended?
Then everything will be perfect.
Thanks.

I used Extender and it appears to work but if use HP ENVY 4520 series ICON the scanner still cannot send files to the computer. Do I now always have to use the Extender? When will HP have a better resolution to another Windows problem

I also faced this problem. The problem persisted even after using HP Print & Scan Doctor as well as after updating driver on Windows PC. Finally, in the HP Scan software, I unchecked SaveAs Dialog box (for saving). The problem was then solved. Also, while clicking Browse button, HP Scan stops; so do not click Browse button. If you want to change folder for saving scanned document, please copy and paste folder path e.g. from Windows Explorer.
