Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

OK, my HP OFFICE JET PRO 8025e, which is 1.5 years old will not scan or make copies. The bar does not light up or move at all and I get "scanner error" and will not scan or copy.

I have done ALL the restarts to printer, computer, taken the app off phone and the printer off the app and reinstalled and still nothing. Updated latest drivers and Windows 11 (does it automatically) and still no copy or scanner function. It does print jobs sent to it by phone or the CPU, so it is still connected yet the printer says it is not.  Made a copy of the Printer Status report and it shows it is connected to our wifi.

Help! Is this another bummer product from HP? I need this scanner/copier function to work, though I do not use it a lot, when I do, it is essential.

Hi @abs-2026

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I completely understand how disappointing it feels when the scanner and copier functions stop working, especially when you rely on them at critical moments. I appreciate the effort you’ve already put in—restarts, reinstalling the app, updating drivers, and confirming connectivity. Since printing works fine, we know the printer is communicating, but the scanning mechanism itself is not responding.

Let’s go step by step to isolate and attempt recovery:

Power Reset with Direct Connection

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors or extension cords).
  • Turn the printer back on and try a copy function from the printer’s control panel.

Check Scanner Hardware Initialization

  • Lift the scanner lid and ensure the glass and white backing are clean and free of debris.
  • When you attempt a copy, listen carefully—does the scanner bar attempt to move or light up at all? If it remains completely inactive, it points to a hardware initialization issue.

Run Diagnose & Fix in the HP App

  • Open the HP App on your Windows computer.
  • Select your printer, go to “Printer Settings,” and choose “Diagnose & Fix.”
  • Follow the guided steps; this tool checks for communication errors between the scanner and the system.

Test Scanning from Windows

  • On your PC, open the HP App and try scanning directly from there.
  • Alternatively, open Windows Fax and Scan (type “Windows Fax and Scan” in the search bar), select “New Scan,” and choose your printer.
  • This helps confirm if the issue is isolated to the printer’s hardware or the software interface.

Update Firmware

  • Visit the official HP support page for your printer: HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e Drivers and Software
  • Enter your exact model, check for any available firmware updates, and install them. Firmware updates can restore scanner functionality if the device is stuck in an error state.

Check Copy Function Independently

  • Place a sheet on the scanner glass and press the Copy button directly on the printer.
  • If the scanner bar does not light or move, even after firmware and resets, this confirms the issue is not software but scanner hardware.

After these steps, if the scanner bar still does not activate, the printing function will continue to work, but the scanning/copying mechanism may require servicing. For now, please try the power reset and firmware update first, as those often bring the scanner back to life.

NONE of these worked. What a waste of new ink because now we will be switching to EPSON Printer because HP has done us wrong again. We had an HP computer 6 years ago and it failed 1.5 yrs into it. Now, this printer will not scan during personal tax scans.

I tried everything you have given me, but time to give up on HP for good. Will be selling new ink cartridges very cheap soon on Facebook marketplace.

I hear your frustration, and I’m really sorry this experience has been so disappointing—especially when you're trying to get something as important as tax documents scanned. It’s incredibly frustrating when a device you rely on lets you down, and I completely understand why you’d feel like giving up on HP after multiple setbacks.

At this point, if the scanner bar remains completely inactive and the “Scanner Error” persists even after a direct power reset and firmware update, it’s likely a mechanical or internal hardware fault—possibly with the scanner bulb, motor, or internal sensor.

I'm sending you a private message to guide you on the next steps.

Take care and have a great day!
