I had the same problem, but got it resolved. The HP customer service solved the problem. My printer was connected to my PC by USB cable and I discovered that with the new HP app scanning will only work if your printer is wirelessly connected. For some of you that my answer the question.

I phoned the helpline as my printer is still under warranty. I was told that THE SCANNER WILL NOT WORK IF IT IS CONNECTED USING A USB CABLE. I reconnected the printer wirelessly, without the usb cable and the scanner now works.
