HP Smart
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have used a number of program to crop images without problem including previous HP scan software. After the latest edition of HP Smart was installed on my Lenovo windows 10 I am unable to crop an image

I place the item to be scanned on the flatbed / glass

Scan the content as Preset Photo / Image

Set the Page Size as Entire Scan Area

Do not check "Detect Edges

Scan

After the item scans, click Edit (upper right corner next to the tiny pencil)

In "Crop",

Select Custom

I drag the corners to the boundaries you want.

But when I click Done the image reverts to it's original size. I i not cropped to the boundaries I set. This ia an annoying problem which forces me to crop the image in another program

Any help as to where I am going wrong would be gratefully appreciated

It is not "you".

Something has been going on with HP Smart and Edits lately.

The suggested solution is to have updated to the latest version.

At this writing, the latest version HP Smart for Windows:  121.1.193.0

Does running the latest HP Smart version work?

Maybe.

HP is aware of the recent issues.

It is unclear that the situation is actually resolved.

Make sure you are running the latest version...

Windows (Start) > Windows Store

In the upper right corner, click on the three horizontal dots (Settings)

Select Downloads and Updates

Applications available for update are listed on top, above the main app list.

Yes, it is annoying.

Two alternate scan options (not as nice, but also not broken):

HP Scan and Capture - Microsoft Store (formally Windows Store) - Requires Windows 8 or higher

Example

Scan_and_Capture_Crop_1Scan_and_Capture_Crop_1

Webscan – located in the Embedded Web Server (EWS) – No additional software

If the printer is on the network,

  • Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
  • Tab Settings > Security > Administrator Settings > make sure Webscan is checked / enabled
  • Click Apply to save any changes

Next

  • Tab Scan > Webscan
  • Set up Webscan the way you want it - for example, set the Source to ADF - Scan a test document using Webscan
