Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).
Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan

To HP support. I've posted elsewhere, as have many others, about HP Smart suddenly no longer working. The apparent answer is not posted at the top of the HP Support Forum advising all that it is no longer supported. A few HP support folks have posted some sadly useless responses and taken folks down the wrong rabbit holes. I stumbled on the fact that due to Adobe dropping Flash support back in January 2021, which that app apparently depends on, HP Smart was not going to work anymore -- but it didn't stop working until just recently.

I ended up spending many hours trying to find solutions because HP did not automatically replace the app in an update. One solution suggested to me after downloading an HP troubleshooting app was to unplug/replug the printer/scanner and then reboot my computer. That did not solve the problem.

Then somewhere it was suggested that HP Scan Extended was HP Smart's replacement. Downloaded that which required yet another computer reboot. Clicking on the app results in a pop-up that says that the HP Imaging device was not found. Useless.

The only actual solution that I stumbled on that works is an app called HP Scan and Capture.

I really wish HP would have simply caused HP Smart to be replaced with HP Scan and Capture with no muss or fuss, instead of the many hours I spent trying to resolve this problem.

@rlk99, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to use the HP Smart app.

To assist you better, what model printer are you using?

Refer to this document to know how to find the Product Name or Product Number.

Which device are you using to print?

Did you contact the HP Support team regarding the same?

Keep me posted.

Rik99, thanks for your diligence on this issue.  I'm circling back to discover what you've provided in this thread, namely, that the reason HP Smart has stopped working is due to Adobe's pulling the plug on Flash.  Who'da thunk?  Okay, I'm with you on the frustrations of being directed down rabbit holes; very annoying.  But are you satisifed that "HP Scan and Capture" is a suitable replacement for HP Smart?  Thanks so much for your participation here and I would love to know this product yielded what we all wanted, to have our functionality back.
