After clicking on 'Edit' button in HP Smart to adjust the scan results, I get a blank screen. The application doesn't react then to further action and can only be closed.

A lot has happened recently, some of it directly related to the HP Officejet Pro 9010 and 9020 series printers.

As a "Side Bar", then I am including that information.

Is it related?  Maybe not, but it is still worth note.

Recently released software resolves an issue on the printer front panel.

HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 EasyStart Printer Setup Software – Offline Use Only

Recently released important Firmware Update

HP OfficeJet 9010/OfficeJet Pro 9010 All-in-One Printer series firmware update

What else?

HP Smart was recently updated.

One of the apparent consequences of the latest release is it now appears to be mandatory that you log into the application (both Windows and the Mobile version).

Sign into the app using your same HP Smart / HP Connected credentials that you use on the HP Smart / HP Connected website.

Example - HP Smart Mobile - Main Menu / Home Screen

What to do?

The whole thing MIGHT clear if you manage to log into the application.

What else?

Consider:

Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

Scroll down (or search) for HP Smart > Click on it > Uninstall

After the application is uninstalled, Restart the computer and log in

"Get" a new copy of the application from the Microsoft Store

Open the app > Log in using your HP Smart / HP Connected credentials

Set / Add the printer and check for any difference.

Thanks a lot for your detailed reply!

Please see below the screenshot with the highlighted button Edit I meant. It works perfectly for the resolution of 300 dpi, but fails for 600 dpi.

Well, at least it works.

The restricted DPI is likely a result of the Preset and Source choices.

Higher DPI are only available having selected the flatbed / glass and an Image Preset.

Example,

I know of no workaround to the "way it works".

Thank you for your ideas and screenshots.

I used to use this function quite often in the past. It does not work just now after the software update. To be more precise, I attach hereto 3 screenshots for 300 dpi and 3 screenshots for 600 dpi. With 600 dpi the edit window, unfortunately, does not launch.

You are welcome.

And, it doesn't work, after all.

🐀

I don't know.

Is it broken for both Preset Document and Preset Photo?

I would have thought uninstalling the app and reloading it would help.

But, No - apparently not-so-much.

I'll think on it and get back to you if I think of anything else...

I suspect I'm missing something...

Basic Setup Example (from another thread)

HP Smart for Windows - Scan and Crop / Edit - Preset Photo / Image

Place the item to be scanned on the flatbed / glass

Scan the content as Preset Photo / Image

Set the Page Size as Entire Scan Area

Do not check "Detect Edges

Scan

After the item scans, click Edit (upper right corner next to the tiny pencil)

In "Crop",

Select Custom

OR

Select 3.5x5

Drag the corners to the boundaries you want.

NOTE

Custom gives you "free reign on horizontal / vertical sizing

3.5x5 forces the Aspect Ratio to shape / size

NOTE 2

3.5x5 may force the left margin away from the edge.

Use Custom to avoid the margin offset effect.

Click Done

Next menu,

Click Edit (again) if you want to re-edit the scan

OR

Click Save or Share and finish the job...

Thank you 🙂

It works the same way for both presets, Document and Photo. Also, I have already tried restarting my laptop and reinstalling HP Smart. This has helped neither.

Stubborn printer...

OK - Assuming for the sake of covering-thy-backside that the issue might be in the printer.

Open

Try Step 2

Instead of a mere 60 seconds, give it about two minutes before reconnecting...
