HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer

Just got Smart Tank 5100 series (5101) - looks snazzy and the ink tanks seem like a good idea and cost effective.

Main observation is there is no computer'ish screen, like my trusty HP OfficeJet Pro 5978. With the tank printer, everything's from the app ... I was able to print from my phone, so that's pretty slick. 2nd main observation is there's no feeder tray, so you have to place copies one at a time on the scanner - painful for big jobs ...

- for scanning, the only option in the Smart app for source is the Scanner Glass, so no option for "feeder", to feed multiple pages ...

- for copying, how would you copy multiple copies? In OfficeJet Pro 5978 it had a nice computer'ish screen to touch screen your # of copies ... in the HP Smart App, there's no option for "copying" ... only scanning ...

- the Setup and Reference Guide has no mention on scanning and copying, and it doesn't reference anything online, so it's a little skimpy imo.

- The box says "2 years of ink", I was like "woo-hoo, 2 years of free ink!", but the reference basically indicates your ink will last 2 years ... best as I can tell. If that's true, then good.

- Also, the paper tray is skimpy and holds about 1/3 the amount of paper that the trusty HP OfficeJet Pro 5978 does.

Thank you.

Here are my specific questions - - -

- How can you copy XX pages? There's no computer touch-screen like the HP Office Jet Pro 6970 and I don't see an option in HP Smart.

- How would you make 1 copy of a document that has multiple pages? The only option I see is to stick 1 page in at a time.

- For scanning, the only option for source is the "Scanner Glass" (as there's no feeder). So, like copying, if you had a 10-page document, do you have to put 1 page in at a time?

Thank you.

Hi @WilliamPeck,

The HP Smart Tank 5100 All-in-One Printer Series which you own does not have an Automatic document feeder for multiple page scanning or copying.

Printer's that go with Automatic document feeder will have the multiple scan or copying option.

Thanks, but you're not really answering my questions directly.

1. How can you copy XX pages? There's no computer touch-screen like the HP Office Jet Pro 6970 and I don't see an option in HP Smart.

Answer: I figured this out. It's not exactly a touch screen, but you can press the copy button multiple times for the # of copies you have to make. This is fine, unless you want to make 100 or more copies, then you have to press it 100 times or more

2. How would you make 1 copy of a document that has multiple pages? or scan a multi-page document? The only option I see is to stick 1 page in at a time.

Question - can you confirm that I have to load one page at a time? If so, this is kind of ridiculous,

**I would rather have my Trusty HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 back, but the print head failed. This printer might be snazzy with the tank ink but it's a step backward. I realize you're trying to simplify but it's definitely a step backward.
