When I booted up my PC and launched HP Smart and tried to scan a document (connected via USB) it denied.

I downloaded from the HP site and it did not come with HP Printer Assistant so I cannot do this advice from another HP support thread . What can I do to re-enable it without resetting everything back to default

Welcome to the HP Support Community

 

I understand you are facing a scan-related issue with your HP Smart Tank 615. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

 

To assist better:

  • Are you using a standard printer USB ( 6Ft)
  • Have you installed any anti-virus software?

While you respond to that, Let's perform the below steps:

 

Please install the HP Full-featured driver to enable the Scan to computer Option.

 

Once the download is completed, follow the onscreen instructions to finish the setup.

 

Enable Scan to computer

 

Open the HP Full-featured software by clicking on the printer icon on the desktop screen or by searching windows for HP Officejet Pro 6968.

 

Search Windows for HP > HP Smart Tank 615 > double click to open the HP Printer assistant > Click on Scan

 

Click on Manage scan to computer 

 

Click on Enable > Check the box at the bottom > Close
