scans cannot be saved to my windows downloads or designated file-this is crazy.  Have never had a printer/scanner that required a log in to save the scanned file to, and then it won't save.. It shows saved on the screen, but I have saved it and saved it and saved it, and when I go back to the file it is empty.  This is so frustrating

What else?

?

Which application or software are you using to scan and save the content?

OR

Without the context of knowing what you are using...

Sure, could be broken -- not likely the case but we don't know what you are seeing or doing -- if all else is "just right" and the app or software fails to save the scanned content, something might not be working as expected.

Continuing...

Why does what you are using , scanning, saving, that is "what you doing" make a difference to the result?

Examples

True - HP Smart - Windows - wants you to sign into the application using your HP Account credentials.

Normal behavior for the application.  HP Smart supports a number of Cloud based options - all of these need at least the HP Account access and possible additional sign-in depending on the job type and destination.

HP Account Sign-in credentials are checked / added in the upper left corner of the app.

HP Scan does  not typically required sign-in to run the software.

That said, depending on where you have the Destination set, you might need a previously set sign-in to that location.

HP Scan - Universal Scan Software - can (and typically might) be set up to save to a particular Destination.  If that destination is a remote (NAS) or a Cloud Storage location, then yes - there is an associated sign-in to the Cloud Storage account.  Typically, when job type is initiated in Windows, the "not local" destination must be a shared folder open for read and write to "everyone".

Scanning from the printer to a "network folder location" (in EWS) is controlled by the Quick Set for Scan to Network Folder.

It is not possible to sign into the destination during the time the job is crafted / started on the printer -- The necessary sign-in(s) must be created / set up in the Profile during the Quick Set creation and testing.

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Scan > Scan to Network Folder > Network Folder Setup

OR (newer format EWS)

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Scan (Defaults)
